What do you want to do when you grow up? I guess at one time or another we have all been asked this question. Frequently, my husband would tell me that I needed to decide what I wanted to do when I grow up. But I always thought, “Why…. when there are so many things to learn how to do?” This philosophy has led me down many paths, but everything has contributed to what I do. I make jewelry. I love working with metals, glass and fire. I freely admit I am a workshop junkie! I believe you can never stop learning and everything I learn gives me the ability to add something to my work that will hopefully be of interest to others.
In my studio, you will find everything from raw metal, copper, brass, silver and various types of glass. And when making jewelry, you can never have too many tools… torches, kilns, saws, presses, grinders, drills, hammers (luv my hammers, texturing is a great stress reliever 😊). All this allows me to texture, emboss, etch and enamel metals and to work with hot glass to make pendants, earrings, bracelets, and at times my own beads. I get a lot of my inspirations from nature, but there are times I have no idea of what I want to do and just start working with materials until something starts to happen.
We have all had quite a year and many days it has been difficult to find the motivation to create. But, I’m a maker and once you have created something by your own hands it will keep drawing you back. I am so excited that we are going forward with The Trails and Trees Studio tour again. I love meeting everyone and sharing what I do.
There are some that say, “Those who can, do and those who can’t, teach”. I believe those that teach, can do and they are sharing their gift. I thank all those that have shared their gift with me, so I can do what I do today!
See you in November!
